The Brief
NUTM - the Nigerian University of Technology and Management — came to us to launch the Tech Leaders Club: the next chapter in NUTM's mission to shape Africa's future through technology, leadership and innovation. The evening doubled as the unveiling of NUTM's impact report, bringing partners, faculty, alumni and friends of NUTM together to hear where the institution stood and where the Club was taking it next.
The Challenge
Academic and institutional launches tend to fall into one of two traps — a data-heavy report reading that loses the room, or a generic gala format that loses the substance. NUTM's numbers were genuinely strong: the majority of graduates now sit as intrapreneurs and operators across leading African corporates, with a sharp rise in earnings after the programme, and a meaningful share of alumni building their own ventures. Our task was to give those numbers real weight in the room, without burying the evening's real purpose — introducing the Club itself as a forward-looking platform, not a highlight reel of past results.
Our Approach
We built the evening as a rising narrative rather than a flat agenda: welcome, credibility, external validation, substance, engagement, ceremony, gratitude — each phase handing off to the next with intent. The Club's own name shaped the framing throughout: "Technology" as NUTM's DNA and commitment to STEM excellence, "Leaders" as its calling to be a think-tank for ideas that solve Africa-wide and global challenges.
Guest Journey
Arrival ran 5:30 to 6pm, moving straight into a welcome address from the NUTM President reframing the Club's purpose and NUTM's track record. Two short videos followed — board members speaking, then undergraduates — putting both institutional credibility and the voice of the community in the room before a single outside speaker took the stage. A keynote from Iyin Aboyeji brought external validation from Africa's tech and venture ecosystem, followed by the evening's substance: a full report presentation unpacking NUTM's impact, opened up afterward to audience Q&A.
Production
The evening was run to the minute — each segment timed tightly across a two-hour window from 5:30 to 7:30pm, with videos held to under three minutes each and the keynote to ten, so momentum never dropped between institutional data and audience engagement. The formal report unveiling followed Q&A as the evening's ceremonial peak, before a vote of thanks closed the programme on schedule.
Brand Moments
The Club's identity was carried through its own name rather than heavy signage — "Technology" and "Leaders" framed consistently across the welcome address, the videos and the unveiling moment itself, so the branding argument was made in language before it needed a backdrop to do the work.
Outcome
NUTM closed the evening having put real numbers in front of the room — the majority of graduates now leading in African corporates, dozens of alumni-founded startups, hundreds of jobs created, and millions raised in venture funding — alongside the formal introduction of the Tech Leaders Club as, in NUTM's own words, "this exciting beginning."
